Why go to Hoi An? Discover something magical in Central Vietnam.

Matthew and I just got back from our honeymoon where we traveled throughout Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand, and what an adventure it was! This part of the world is nothing short of magical, and I am excited to share with you across a series of blog posts some of the experiences and tips we discovered along the way.

For those looking for an adventurous, cultural or culinary destination – Vietnam is a must-add to your bucket list.

Of all the incredible places we visited, coming upon the colorful lantern-lit wonder of Hoi An’s ancient town at night was unforgettable. Although Hoi An is one of Vietnam’s top destinations with quite a few tourists, it is definitely one of my must-see cities. Here are just a few of the many reasons you need to head to Vietnam...

1. Amazing food, food, and more food

Hoi An is a sensory experience and the food here does not disappoint. From the Vietnam classic, the Bahn Mi, to a Hoi An specialty like white rose dumplings, there are places to get the best-of-the-best of Vietnam’s cuisine.

One of the most popular restaurants is Morning Glory, and for a good reason. This restaurant specializes in both traditional classics and modern creations, so there is something for everyone. Given the restaurant’s popularity, they have opened a couple other locations in town. Regardless, the authenticity and quality of the food are still fantastic.

Beyond Morning Glory, a few of my other favorites are the Mango Rooms and the White Marble Bar – both worth checking out when it town.

2. Get a custom dress or pair of shoes made overnight

Hoi An is known for their textiles and there are dozens of clothiers who specialize in custom-made garments. Whether you are looking for a new suit, silk dress, or leather shoes, you can order them in the afternoon and they will be ready the following day! Matthew got two pairs of shoes for under $50 that he absolutely loves. Shop around, because prices and quality vary. One of the most famous and well-respected tailors is BeBe, which has three locations in Hoi An.

Short on time or not looking for something custom? My favorite boutique we visited was Metiseko, a small high-end fashion boutique comprised of both French and Vietnamese fashion designers focused on sustainability and high-quality organic materials. I found their fabrics and designs to be extremely unique and comfortable. I absolutely love my new Metiseko dress!

3. A nightlife experience like no other

Hoi An comes alive in the nighttime. There is a daily Night Market on the banks of the river, and locals and tourists alike come out to eat, drink and socialize after dark. They close down many of the streets to cars and scooters, so it is much easier and more pleasant to walk the streets (compared to the hustle and bustle of Hanoi this was a real relief!). There are opportunities to hear live music, write a letter to a loved one and send it along in a lantern on the river, or try all sorts of delectable street food goodies. Want to get the local experience navigating the city streets? I can match you up with my favorite local guide who can show you all the best spots.

4. Wonderful accommodation options

The accommodations in the Hoi An/Danang area were some of my favorite in Vietnam. My top three hotels each have something different to offer, depending on what you are looking for during your stay.

  • For luxury in the heart of Hoi An, I love the Hotel Royal Hoi An – McGallery by Sofitel. A beautiful 5-star option right in the heart of the ancient town, offering amazing service, modern and spacious rooms, and a superb breakfast. Nothing is better for walking out your door and exploring the town of Hoi An at any hour of the day.

  • For true tranquility, pristine private beaches, and Four Seasons service, head to The Four Seasons Resort – The Nam Hai. You will instantly feel at ease the moment you pass through the gates onto the Nam Hai property. From the cascading infinity pools leading down to the beach, to the hundreds of swaying coconut trees, to the peacefulness of your own private villa, this resort is the epitome of relaxation. As a Four Seasons Preferred Partner, I can make sure you get the VIP treatment!

  • For a true “WOW” experience on the cliffs of Danang, nothing beats the Intercontinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort. Frankly, this is one of my favorite places I have ever stayed. Meticulously and eloquently designed after a royal residence, the hotel is situated along the cliffs of a private peninsula, complete with a cable car to get from breathtaking lobby on the top, to the beach and barefoot bar below. As a Virtuoso property, when you book with me you get $100 resort credit and lots of other great perks. From the 5-star dining options to the extensive spa, to the personalized service, you will be blown away by this unique property.
