How do you travel? Do you like to get up early and see it all or do you sleep in and take your time? Do you like to get out of your comfort zone or do you want to be at the beach all day with a piña colada in hand?
Everyone has a travel style. Here are my top 6 destinations for 2019, all based on how YOU like to travel.
1. For the exotic traveler looking for culture and bang for your buck: CAMBODIA
I recently visited Cambodia and was blown away by the friendly people, majestic temples, and incredible value for your money. There is something magical about this country that welcomes visitors to experience and learn about its ancient history and traditions. Watching the sun rise over Angkor Wat was an emotional experience, while exploring the local market was a feast for the senses. If the idea of jungle temples, exotic foods, unique culture, and endless spa treatments sounds appealing to you, add Cambodia to your list. My favorite place to stay is the beautiful Belmond La Residence d’Angkor. If you book with me I can throw in a free 50-minute massage for two and daily breakfast to make your stay special.
2. For the foodie who does not want to worry about a thing: UNICO RIVIERA MAYA
The Riviera Maya is treasure trove of luxury resorts just a few hours away from the US by air, and is the sport for one of my absolute favorites: Unico Riviera Maya. Known for their focus on gourmet meals, locally sourced ingredients, and unique craft cocktails, it is a dream resort for foodies (or basically anyone who loves to eat and drink). What makes Unico extra special is their Unlimited Inclusions package, which includes everything you would expect from an all-inclusive resort plus spa treatments, tours, golf and even scuba diving! This adults-only paradise is top of my list for the perfect romantic getaway this year.
3. For the efficient traveler who wants to cross countries off their list but only unpack once: EUROPEAN RIVER CRUISE
River cruises are all the rage and for good reason. It is the perfect way to see a variety of destinations without all the hassle of getting from place to place. Many are all-inclusive and even include daily excursions. It is more like you are on a floating boutique hotel that magically transports you overnight! There are multiple rivers and cruise lines to choose from, and everything from golf and wine themed cruises, to Adventures by Disney cruises for families. As your cruise specialist, let me pair you up with the cruise that is perfect for you.
4. For the adventurer wanting to explore new corners of the world: BHUTAN
Bhutan is a destination few have explored, even amongst the most traveled travelers. Always ranked among the happiest countries in the world, this country previously untouched by tourism is now opening its doors to small groups of tourists with some of the most extraordinary itineraries and accommodations options out there. Trek through the Himalayas, learn about local traditions, and see the legendary Tiger’s Nest by day, and stay at one of Bhutan’s unique accommodations by night. You definitely want to factor in a couple nights at the highly-anticipated Six Senses Bhutan which opens early this year!
5. For the nature lover who doesn’t mind an early morning: AFRICAN SAFARI
Having lived in South Africa, this part of the world is close to my heart. If you are ready for the trip of a lifetime this year, an African Safari is a trip you will never forget. Great for couples or families, a journey into the bush with an expert guide leads to one-of-a-kind, truly spontaneous nature encounters you cannot get elsewhere. Pair that with some time in Cape Town to see the legendary Table Mountain and enjoy the picturesque wine lands. If you are looking to meet others along the way, one of my favorite tours is Tauck, who offers extraordinary small-group African adventures. Or I can help design your perfect custom African vacation.
6. For the traveler who appreciates the finer things and also wants to support a recovering economy: DORADO BEACH, PUERTO RICO
Puerto Rico is the place to be in 2019 according to all the major travel publications. Puerto Rico has been busy rebuilding after Hurricane Maria, and we are thrilled that resorts, hotels and restaurants are back up and running! The island has so much to offer from peaceful beaches, to phenomenal food and a lively music scene, and it is just a short flight from the US. My top place to stay is the gorgeous, newly-renovated Dorado Beach, A Ritz-Carlton Reserve. This heavenly resort is in a league of its own (the stunning photographs speak for themselves). If you are looking for the best of the best of the Caribbean, look no further. As a Ritz preferred partner, I am happy to make your stay extra special with a $150 resort credit and more!
