Nowhere else in the world does spring quite like the Netherlands! Between the months of March and May, the country undergoes a beautiful transformation that attracts visitors from across the globe. Travelers can stroll along Amsterdam’s canals and visit cozy cafes, or adventure into the rolling flower fields of the countryside, all while enjoying warm sun and crisp spring air.
Before we officially move into the summer months, I wanted to share what a trip to the Netherlands with Jessica White Travel could look like during this special time of year! I’ve planned similar trips for clients before, so I’ve pulled some of their favorite experiences to share here.
Luxury Accommodations in the City Center

After you arrive at the airport, sit back and relax in a private transfer to your hotel. When it comes to where to stay in Amsterdam, The Waldorf Astoria and The Pulitzer are two of my favorite properties.
Nestled along the prestigious Herengracht canal, the Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam is made up of six 17th- and 18th-century canal palaces. The interior was thoughtfully and stylishly planned by the internationally acclaimed hotel designer, Jacques Garcia. With its serene private garden and Michelin-starred dining, this property perfectly blends Dutch heritage with modern luxury.
Just across the canal in the trendy Nine Streets district, the Pulitzer Amsterdam offers its own artful charm. This unique hotel is spread across 25 interconnected Golden Age canal houses and filled with character, design details, and one of the best cocktail bars in town. It’s perfect for travelers looking for the most stylish accommodations.

Wake up from an afternoon nap in your luxurious king-size bed and look out your window at the picturesque canals below. Waiting for you in the water is your historic saloon boat, ready to take you on a private VIP tour of the city through its famous canals. Sit back and relax while you enjoy drinks and light sacks as you cruise to famous sites around the city.

From 1595 to Today: A Living Museum of Spring

In the coming days, join your private guide and driver into the countryside. Visit the Hortus Bulborum, a museum garden that contains over 4,000 different varieties of tulips, hyacinths, and daffodils. The collection boasts unique tulips and daffodil varieties bred as early as 1595, that can only be found here. For hundreds of years, people have celebrated the picturesque beauty and dainty fragrance of these Dutch flower fields.
And we can’t forget a stop at The Keukenhof Gardens! Explore over 70 acres of gardens on which roughly 8 million bulbs are planted every year. This is also where you will find the postcard-perfect Dutch windmills among the sea of colorful blossoms.

Continue your exploration Zaanse Schans, a colorful living and working neighborhood on the banks of the river Zaan. Experience the feeling of stepping back into the 17th century as you take in the sights of the town’s traditional green wooden houses, stylized gardens, small hump-backed bridges, local workshops, historic windmills and charming little shops.
Art & History in the City

The city of Amsterdam is world-famous for its canals, locks, bridges and well-preserved centuries-old buildings. Whether you want to explore on your own or be joined by a private guide, there is no wrong way to experience the city!
Stop by the The Van Loon Mansion, housed within the former residence of the Van Loon family, and together with its garden and carriage house, to feel what it was like to live as a powerful Golden Age family. Stroll through Dam Square to see the Royal Palace and further transport yourself back in time. Or visit the stunning Rijksmuseum and delve into over 800 years of Dutch art and history.
If you’re interested in seeing a more contemporary side of Amsterdam, head to the Ninth Street district. Here you will find a variety restaurants, cafés, art galleries, jewelers, boutiques, as well as luxury and vintage shops.

Amsterdam in the spring is an amazing trip for families, couples, and friend groups. With so much to see and do, and with an Instagram-able moment around every corner, I can help craft your perfectly tailored trip to the Netherlands! If you find yourself planning ahead for spring travels, I'd love to be your travel partner in creating an unforgettable trip.
