Havana good time in Havana

Go back in time on a magical journey to a city that feels like the 50s.

Although Cuba is a mere 90 miles south of Florida, many Americans have yet to make the trip. With all the restrictions and skepticism with the current political climate, I was absolutely amazed with what this gorgeous country has to offer. From cobble-stoned and flower-lined streets, to white sand beaches, to a vibrant nightlife scene, Havana will take your breath away.

Top Havana tales, tips and tidbits:

1. Before you go, make sure all your documents are in order. Cuba has some unique restrictions and requirements, so you want to make sure all your i's are dotted and all your t's are crossed. If you are planning with me, I will help with this process.

2. Ride in style through the streets of Havana. You definitely want to have a local private tour guide take you around the city. There is SO much history that will bring the city to life, and no one tells it better than a local who has lived through it. Make sure your ride is an authentic 50s model so you can get the authentic experience!

3. Get dressed up and go to the Tropicana. Back in the day, the Tropicana Club was a magnet for celebrities like Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra and Humphrey Bogart. Today the Tropicana puts on a fabulous show of lights, music and dancing. We definitely felt like movie stars during this extravagant Cuban show!

4. Have a Cuba Libre (or a Mojito) at Ernest Hemingway's local watering hole. Rum is the drink of choice in Cuba, and you will see that Cuba's signature cocktails contain the liquor. Head to the Bodeguita del Medio and imagine that Hemingway was sitting there after a good day of writing The Old Man and the Sea.

5. Get out of the city to one of Cuba's gorgeous beaches. Cuba's resorts and beaches are beautiful and worth the visit. Many tourists who come to Cuba stay in Havana, since one of the largest vehicles of tourism is through cruising. If you have the time, get out of the city and explore one of these fine sandy escapes. Cuba is a relatively small country, so you do not need to go far!

5. Take an authentic Cuban cigar home. I am not a cigar smoker, but my husband really enjoyed getting to smoke a real top-quality Cuban cigar. Those who smoke cigars will really appreciate the thought that went into this gift. Note: not all cigar vendors in Havana sell the genuine name brands, so make sure to inquire about the best shop to visit. If planning with me, we will make sure you go to all the best spots!
